QB Roberts talks about Navy decision

PA PREPS recently had a chance to talk with one of the Naval Academy's newest commits, Jon Jon Roberts, out of West Chester East High School in Pennsylvania. The senior quarterback has thrown for 5,391 passing yards and 45 touchdowns so far in his career. During his junior campaign, Roberts threw for 1,666 yards and 15 touchdowns while running for 540 yards and two touchdowns.
Roberts is already the 2nd all-time leading passer in Chest-Mont League history and is only six touchdown passes away from taking over second place in that category. Roberts recently talked with PA PREPS about why he committed to Navy.

"Navy recruited me as a quarterback," Roberts said. "Unless it's more beneficial for me to play another position for the team, that's the position I'll be playing for Navy."
According to Roberts, the coaching staff liked a number of things about him as a player. "I think they (Navy's coaching staff) liked my play-making ability," said Roberts. "I usually make the first guy miss me when he tries to tackle me. They also liked my speed, instincts, and attitude. I'm willing to play any position, so if it doesn't work out at quarterback, I will find another way to contribute."
Roberts has displayed leadership skills for his West Chester East High School football team ever since his sophomore year. Roberts has been a captain for West Chester East since then and had showed his leadership skills on and off the field.
"Committing was a tough decision," Roberts said. "I really loved the coaching staff (at Navy) and the atmosphere. The opportunity to join that kind of tradition at Navy is special. I'll have a chance to follow in the footsteps of players like Roger Staubach, Ricky Dobbs, and Kennan Reynolds."
