2016 Beast of the East Wrap-Up : Top Performers at each position

PA PREPS was on hand for the 2016 Beast of the East Underclassman high school football showcase that took place this past Friday in Pittman, New Jersey. There were a good number of Pennsylvania recruits mixed in with a majority of New Jersey participants. PA PREPS takes a look at some of the best players at each position from the camp.

NOTE: We left out the quarterbacks because we (PA PREPS) could not fully evaluate everybody.

TOP RUNNING BACK PERFORMERS

Drew Price - Burlington Township (NJ) - RB
Drew Price - Burlington Township (NJ) - RB

Drew Price - Burlington Township (NJ) - RB- 2017

Price ran for 1,036 yards and nine touchdowns during the 2015 season. At the BOTE, it was Price's receiving skills that were on display. Price proved to be a tough cover for mostly all of the linebackers as he was able to use his quickness to lose defenders once he came out of his break. Listed at 5'8", 160 lbs., he'll have to get out on the camp circuit in the upcoming months to dispel any notion that he might be too small to play at the next level.

Kyle Dobbs - St. Augustine Prep (NJ) - 2018 - 5'10", 170 lbs.

We last saw Dobbs at a 7v7 tournament at Total Turf late last summer. Dobbs ran for 1,613 yards and 19 touchdowns during his sophomore season and currently has an offer from Temple. Dobbs had too much speed for the linebackers that tried to cover him. Dobbs also had success against many of the defensive backs at camp. He may need to put some more weight on but he still has two full years to go.

Iverson Clement - Rancocas Valley Regional (NJ) - 2018
Iverson Clement - Rancocas Valley Regional (NJ) - 2018 (PAPREPS.COM)

Iverson Clement - Rancocas Valley Regional (NJ) - 2018 - 5'11", 190 lbs.

Clement is just one of those players that'll be recruited as an athlete due to his versatility. As a running back, Clement rushed 92 times for 555 yards and 9 touchdowns during the 2015 season. At the BOTE, he lined up mostly as a wide receiver against defensive backs. His quickness of the line was impressive, along with his straight-line speed. Clement currently has an offer from Temple.

Brandon Outlaw - Moorestown (NJ) - 2017 - 5'9" 175

Outlaw displayed some shiftiness coming in and out of his routes during the 1v1 sessions. For a running back, Outlaw showed good route-running ability and good hands during the 1v1 sessions as well.

Nazir Streater - Camden Catholic - 2017 - 5'9", 180
Nazir Streater - Camden Catholic - 2017 - 5'9", 180 (Nazir Streamer's twitter account)

Nazir Streater - Camden Catholic - 2017 - 5'9", 180

Streater rushed 134 times for 1,080 yards during the 2015 season. He won a good number of his 1v1 match-ups.

TOP DEFENSIVE BACK PERFORMERS

Tyler Parsons - Woodrow Wilson (NJ) - DB
Tyler Parsons - Woodrow Wilson (NJ) - DB (PAPREPS.COM)

Tyler Parsons- Woodrow Wilson (NJ) - 2017 - 5'10", 170

Parsons was definitely one of the players who caught out eyes during the BOTE. Parsons made plays in both press-coverage and off-man coverage. Parsons was able to run with all the wide-receivers and competed very hard during each rep. Some schools may feel he needs to put on some weight but he definitely has the skills and some "dog" in him.

Shamere Collins - St. Augustine Prep (NJ) - 2018
Shamere Collins - St. Augustine Prep (NJ) - 2018 (PAPREPS.COM)

Shamere Collins - St. Augustine Prep (NJ) - 2018 - 5'11", 180

This off-season should be one that brings in a few offers for Collins. Collins has shown a lot of improvement in the past year, especially with his press-coverage technique.

Zen Argenio - Glassboro (NJ) - 2017
Zen Argenio - Glassboro (NJ) - 2017 (PAPREPS.COM)

Zen Argenio - Glassboro (NJ) - 2017 5'7", 150

Regardless of his size, Argenio was one of the more competitive and productive defensive backs at the BOTE. A few of the coaches let us know that he won the majority of his 1v1 reps as well. Size may be an issue as far as recruiting goes but he has the speed to keep up with receivers.

  Exree Loe - Johnstown (PA) - 2017
Exree Loe - Johnstown (PA) - 2017 (PAPREPS.COM)

Exree Loe - Johnstown (PA) - 2017 - 6'0", 182 lbs.

Loe, who currently has offers from both Pittsburgh and Iowa State, definitely stepped up to the challenge of being a target for wide receivers trying to make a name for themselves at the BOTE. Loe has put on some good weight and has gotten stronger. Loe was very effective pressing wide receivers as he would get them off balance with a good jams off the line.

Deron Wharton - Camden (NJ) - 2017 - 5'10", 160 lbs.

One thing that stood about Wharton was his closing quickness. His drive on the ball is quick and he made several pass deflections during his 1v1 reps. Wharton ran stride-for-stride with receivers throughout his 1v1 reps too.

Omar Rodgers - Burlington Township (NJ) - 2019

This is one player that you may want to keep an eye on. We would've never guessed he was only a freshman due to the way he completed against the upperclassmen all night. Rodgers has very smooth hips and good closing speed. Rodgers also showed that he can accelerate quickly as well.

TOP DEFENSIVE LINEMEN PERFORMERS

Brett Moyer - Exeter Township (PA) - DL
Brett Moyer - Exeter Township (PA) - DL (PAPREPS.COM)

Brett Moyer- Exeter Township - 6'3", 225 - 2017

Moyer had a very productive night, beating a lot of the offensive linemen with both speed and technique. Moyer is a bit of a tweener right now and figures to be a linebacker at the next level. It'll be interesting to see how his recruitment shapes up. He's a very strong kid and can hold is on on the defensive line.

Saleem Lockett - Ridley (PA) - 2017
Saleem Lockett - Ridley (PA) - 2017 (PAPREPS.COM)

Saleem Lockett - Ridley (PA) - 2017 - 6'2", 275

Lockett has improved with his hand usage in the past year and was able to keep hands away from his body for most of the 1v1 reps. As he continues to work on getting a faster step off the line of scrimmage, Lockett should get some FCS looks this camp season.

Jerry Fuller - Highland Regional (NJ) - 2017 - 6'2", 235

Fuller was very consistent during his 1v1 reps as he showed good quickness coming off of the ball. Fuller used good leverage and completed with a high motor.

Evans Cabral - Upper Darby (PA)- 2017 -6'0", 300 lbs.

At his height, it'll be hard for Evans to get FBS looks, but he showed quick feet throughout the 1v1 drills and showed a lot of energy.

TOP OFFENSIVE LINEMEN PERFORMERS

Joshua Taylor - West Catholic (PA)- 2017 - 6'3", 250 lbs.

Taylor was one of the better offensive linemen at the camp. Taylor had some of the best footwork and showed his ability to mirror pass rushers. He did a good job of keeping his hands out and defensive linemen off of his body.

Tyler Kelly - Delsea Regional (NJ) - 2017 6'2", 250

Even though he's a little bit undersized, Kelly had some of the best footwork out of all of the offensive linemen. Kelly also showed patience and mirrored whomever he was going up against during 1v1 reps.

Paul Meduri - St. Augustine Prep (NJ)- 2017 - 6'1", 290

Meduri is another player who may be considered too small for the Division I level. However, he turned in one of the better performances at the BOTE. Kelly showed good lateral movement and aggressiveness as he blocked until the whistle.

Kurtis Huff - Camden (NJ) - 2017 - 6'1", 264 lbs.

Huff went heads-up against all of the better defensive linemen of the camp and dominated for the most part. He showed a lot of strength at the point of attack and was able to maintain his leverage as the defensive linemen tried to either bull-rush him or speed past him. He had several pancakes on the night.

Christopher Mayo - St. Augustine Prep (NJ) - 2019 - 6'5", 290

If we're talking about the complete package, it would be Christopher Mayo ou tof St. Augustine Prep. Not only does he have the size already, but he has the skill set to become one of the best lineman prospects in the next several years. He showed no fear going up against upperclassmen and dominated most of his 1v1 reps. He's one of the more technically sound freshman linemen that you'll come across in the Northeast. Expect him to become a big-time prospect in the next couple of years.

TOP WIDE RECEIVER PERFORMERS

Everett Wormley - Burlington Township (NJ) - WR
Everett Wormley - Burlington Township (NJ) - WR (PAPREPS.COM )

Everett Wormley-WR- Burlington (NJ) - 2017 6'1", 185

Wormley currently holds offers from Old Dominion, Temple, and Rutgers. Not counting quarterbacks, Wormley was the best player in attendance. His route-running is very impressive and his speed coming in and out of breaks allowed him to separate from defensive backs throughout the night. His acceleration while the ball is in the air also separated him from the pack. It's obvious that his stock will rise even higher in the upcoming months as he goes on the camp and 7v7 circuit.

Gabe Schappel - Exeter (PA) - 2017
Gabe Schappel - Exeter (PA) - 2017 (PAPREPS.COM)

Gabe Schappell -TE- Exeter (PA) - 2017 - 6'3", 210

It's safe to say that Exeter's Gabe Schappell stole the show during 1v1's. Linebackers stood no chance against him and most of the defensive backs were too small to prevent him from catching the football. He is a hell of an athlete as he also plays quarterback. His highlights are definitely worth watching.

Ezekial Ennis - St. Augustine Prep (NJ) - 2017
Ezekial Ennis - St. Augustine Prep (NJ) - 2017 (PAPREPS.COM)

Ezekial Ennis - St. Augustine Prep (NJ) - 2017 - 5'8", 160

Ennis totaled 1,245 all-purpose yards and scored 14 total touchdowns during the 2015 season. After seeing him live, it's easy to see him improving upon those numbers in the fall. At the BOTE, he had a lot of success not only running past defenders, but also out-jumping them for 50/50 throws that came his way. His straight-line speed is very impressive. He also ran different kind of routes that showed he could do more than just go deep. If you look at his highlight film, you can see that he's a very explosive player.

Marlyn Johnson - Wissahickon (PA) - 2017 - 6'3", 180 lbs.

At events like these, you're bound to find some sleepers. Wissahickon's Marlyn Johnson is one of those players..........for now. After checking out his highlight tape and going over BOTE footage, Johnson definitely has the talent to be a legit FBS/FCS prospect.

TOP LINEBACKER PERFORMERS

Steven Glynn - Clearview - (NJ) - 2017 - 6'1", 205

Glynn was very physical against the running backs during the 1v1 sessions. We wouldn't be surprised to see him turn into a strong safety at the next level. Glynn was fluid in pass coverage.

Audley Isaacs - Valley Forge Military Academy - (PA) - 2017 6'1", 215 lbs.

Isaacs has already shown that he plays the run very well. At BOTE, he was able to show that he's athletic enough to cover running backs and tight ends in space. He's a solid middle linebacker prospect who should at least get FCS looks.
