Five Star Performance Camp Recap-Awards

GRAND PRAIRIE- It was a cool rainy Saturday at Grand Prairie High School, but the gloomy weather didn't deter the 350 athletes from across the DFW area to come out and make an impact at TheOldCoach Five Star Performance Camp.

We'll be running a series of premium and free articles over the next week highlighting the camp and some the top performers.

Today we'll start with some of the superlatives for the Class of 2011 and Class of 2012.

The overall camp MVP was an easy choice among the coaches as Arlington Sam Houston WR Kameel Jackson was flat out dominant in one on work torching every defensive back who tried to stay with him, including one phenomenal one handed grab in the corner of the end zone. The Oklahoma commit showed exactly why he's one of the more coveted receivers in the state.

The top performer in testing was a relative unknown until now as Richardson Pearce junior to be Corey Coleman posted blistering numbers in the forty yard dash including a sizzling hand held time of 4.28! Colman was timed by several coaches all in the 4.3 range on both 40 yard dash attempts. Coleman who had a good sophomore season totaling nearly 1000 total yards is sure to rocket up the charts after today's performance.

DeSoto QB Ryan Polite put together another solid performance and earned top 2011 player despite strong charges from several other talented seniors.

Plano East DT Darius Hood earned defensive MVP with a strong all around day and showing why he was first team all 8-5A and second team all area.

Sam Houston racked up a few more awards as brothers Tony Morales and Alfredo Morales earned the top offensive lineman honors. The most impressive player of the day was Kennedale DT Shiawo Garteh. Garteh passed the eyeball test at 6'0 and 271 lbs but he most impressed with his work in the weight room. Garteh who squats 725 lbs showed he could make things happen on the bench throwing up 185 lbs an amazing 33 times easily the top mark of the day. Garteh's day was cut short with an injury but the prognosis for a recovery is good.

The top 2012 performer was from Dallas Smith as DB LaDarrell McNeil continued to impress on the camp circuit with a great all around day. McNeil who has started since his freshman year will undoubtedly be a big time recruit.
