Ott makes the call
A couple weeks after receiving an offer from Iowa, Drew Ott visited campus for the first time. A couple days after that, the defensive end decided that he had seen enough and committed to the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Ott talks about his decision, if Iowa might be getting another recruit from his home state, and much more.
Q: Did you make your decision today?
OTT: Yes, I did. I committed to Iowa.
Q: What led you to Iowa?
OTT: I just really like Iowa. I really like the coaches and the program. It made my decision a lot easier since Nebraska wasn't going to offer, so then I didn't have to have all my neighbors tell me to go to Nebraska, but overall I just really like Iowa and I think it will be a good fit.
Playing eight-man football in Giltner, Nebraska, Ott has racked up 537 career tackles so far in his three years as a starter. This past season, he had 136 tackles and two interceptions in leading his team to an 11-1 record. As a junior, he earned first team all-state honors in both football and basketball.
Ott is the third commitment for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2012, joining Mitch Keppy and Cameron Wilson.
