Watch this thread all night for live updates of both the Gateway/McKeesport game and the Bishop McDevitt/State College game.

Bishop McDevitt/SC is underway. McDevitt kicked it away ... and McDevitt penalized on first play from scrimmage for illegal proceedure.

McDevitt strikes first, on an 10-play, 89-yard drive, capped by a short TD run by Jon Duckett with under a minute left in the first quarter to lead 7-0.

State College fumbles the ensuing kickoff ... setting McDevitt up at the State College 36.

Gateway/McKeesport getting ready to kick off.

Gateway strikes first in the WPIAL battle.

Gateway elected to receive the opening kick. The McKeesport defense forced a three-and-out, but McKeesport's E'Vander Wright muffed the punt and Gateway's Daniel Bradley recovered at the McKeesport 27.

Six plays later, Orne Bey went into the end zone on a 3-yard run and Gateway leads 7-0.

However, on ensuing kick Wright makes up for the muffed handle and returns the ball to the Gateway 38, setting McKeesport up in prime position.

Also ... in State College, McDevitt now leads 14-0.

McKeesport ties the game up as QB Ty-Meer Brown completed just his eighth pass of the season, on a 20-yard TD to Sam Gooden.

Score is 7-7 with 4:17 left in the first.

State College has gotten on the board with a field goal. McDevitt still leads 14-3, with three minutes remaining in the first half ... and McDevitt is driving.

Meanwhile in State College ...

State College's Alex Kenney takes advantage of a tipped pass from McDevitt QB Matt Johnson and returns it untouched for a touchdown, narrowing the score to a 14-10 lead for McDevitt.

There's now 1:30 left in the first half.

In McKeesport, score is still tied 7-7 at the start of the second quarter, with Gateway currently driving in McKeesport territory.

It's halftime in State College. Bishop McDevitt still leads 14-10.

Meanwhile, with about 2 minutes left inthe first half, Gateway and McKeesport are still tied at 7, but Gateway is driving.

Also halftime now in McKeesport, and Gateway has just taken a 14-7 lead as Gateway QB Rob Kalkstein dove into the endzone for a 1-yard run with less than a minute until the half.

Kalkstein's dive capped a massive 18-play, 93 yard drive that included a gutsy call from Gateway coach Terry Smith, opting to go for it on 4th and 1 with the Gators on their own 29 yard line.

Back to action in State College ... and the Little Lions have taken the lead, as QB Dom Mills connects with Shane Dorner for a 20-yard touchdown pass on a screen to the left side.

State College leads 17-14 with just under 9 minutes to play in the third.

Posted on 10/30 8:44 PM | IP: Logged

And just like that, McDevitt regains the lead, as Jameel Poteat runs around the left side on a 35-yard touchdown scamper to cap an 8-play, 71-yard drive.

McDevitt leads 21-17 with 5:43 to play in the third.

And the drama continues at both games:

In McKeesport, Gateway has extended its lead to 21-7 on a 10-yard touchdown run by Brendon Felder. The run capped a 10-play, 80-yard drive that saw an 80-yard touchdown run by Orne Bey called back on an offensive holding call. Just over 2 minutes left now in the third quarter.

In State College, McDevitt made a goal-line stand on the Little Lions. McDevitt still leads 21-17, and the Crusaders are driving.

Posted on 10/30 9:14 PM | IP: Logged

In State College, Bishop McDevitt has now taken a solid lead at 28-17, on a Jon Duckett's second touchdown of the night.

State College has the ball with just under 5 minutes to play.

In McKeesport, Gateway forced a McKeesport punt. McKeesport thought they had recovered the muffed punt, but a flag for interfering with a fair catch gave the ball back to Gateway at their own 34.

Posted on 10/30 9:24 PM | IP: Logged

Looks like Gateway has secured its undefeated season, as QB Rob Kalkstein just called his own number on a 13-yard touchdown run to take a 28-7 lead in the fourth.

Also, in State College, a last-gasp effort from the Little Lions was just intercepted with under 1:30 to play in the game.

And as I'm writing this, McKeesport muffed the kickoff, and Gateway has recovered.

Should have waited to post ...

First play from scrimmage, and Gateway's Kalkstein connects with Brendon Felder on a 35-yard touchdown pass. Gateway now leads 35-7.

It's a final in State College. Bishop McDevitt wins 28-17.

Posted on 10/30 9:33 PM | IP: Logged

McKeesport just added a touchdown to make it 35-14, but failed on the onside kick attempt. Gateway has the ball with about 4 minutes remaining.

Posted on 10/30 9:47 PM | IP: Logged

And it's a final. Gateway beats McKeesport, 35-14.

A new thread with tonight's final scores will be started shortly.
