Each week, PaPreps will highlight some of the more intriguing match-ups of the weekend, from interesting locations to milestone moments to premium contenders going at it, we'll try and grab the best potential games of the weekend.
Later Friday night and again on Saturday, we'll post scores from around the state as they come across the Associated Press wire.
Week 7 Games of the Week
Abington Heights at Scranton Prep
Buzz: Definitely the Game of the Week in Northeast Pennsylvania, this one features two undefeated teams who have thrived on outstanding defenses. Abington Heights allows just over five points per game; Scranton Prep just over three. Something will have to give, and Prep has the slight edge thanks to a more explosive offense. Senior QB Nick Solfanelli and RB Pat Marino have the Cavaliers scoring almost 44 points per game.
Lower Dauphin at Bishop McDevitt
Buzz: If there's a team that's going to slow Bishop McDevitt down, it might be Lower Dauphin. The undefeated Falcons have four shutouts to their names this year, and they'll need the defense to be at its best against the dynamic Crusaders offense. Andre Robinson is coming into his own at running back, and it looks like McDevitt has another find at quarterback in junior Nick Marsilio.
Danville at Montoursville
Buzz: The best test remaining for two 6-0 teams, this could be a preview of a District 4 Class AA title game. Danville's riding the ground game of Sam Dressler and Isaiah Croll, plus a defense that averages almost two interceptions per game. Montoursville hitched its wagon to Cameron Ott, who already has over 1,100 yards in six games.
Mount Pleasant at Washington
Buzz: Washington's been able to withstand the loss of stud running back Shai McKenzie, but this will be the Prexies' best test so far. Mount Pleasant is undefeated thanks to RB Tyler Mellors and a solid defense. Neither team has much of a passing game, and if one of them can stop the other's running game, that might be it.
North Allegheny at Pittsburgh Central Catholic
Buzz: North Allegheny isn't at the level of their state championship teams, but they're still the best test for central Catholic. The Tigers will be physical, and with Luigi Lista-Brinza hurt, Central Catholic will turn to junior Riley Redman at tailback. If North Allegheny can bottle him up, J.J. Cosentino might have to win the game for Central Catholic, which he hasn't had to do yet.
St. Joseph's Prep at La Salle
Buzz: Barring a massive upset elsewhere, these two teams will likely meet again later in the season for the PCL Class AAAA title. For now, though, it's an excellent barometer for both teams. For La Salle, a win means they're still kings. Even a close loss would keep them in the picture. But this is a significant opportunity for SJP. A convincing win does two things: It cements their status as the kings of the PCL (at least until the playoffs) as well as reaffirming their status as one of the top dogs in SEPA.
