Each week, PaPreps will highlight some of the more intriguing match-ups of the weekend, from interesting locations to milestone moments to premium contenders going at it, we'll try and grab the best potential games of the weekend.
Later Friday night and again on Saturday, we'll post scores from around the state as they come across the Associated Press wire.
Week 2 Games of the Week
No. 100 St. Joseph's Prep at No. 80 Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey
Buzz: SJP's season-opening road trip continues, although this one won't build up frequent flyer miles like last week's trek to Dallas. It's a jump across the stateline for a match-up between two members of the RivalsHigh 100. It's Bosco's first game of the year, while SJP obviously has one under its belt. That could favor the Hawks, who have gotten a chance to see what the timeshare method does in the backfield and how explosive its defense can be. This is a huge chance for SJP to signal its potential presence as an early state title contender favorite.
Central Bucks South at Coatesville
Buzz: A thrilling District-1 showdown between two explosive teams, and at its core is a one-on-one battle between two explosive backs. Central Bucks South junior Josh Adams is a bigger, more physical back, but Coatesville RB Daquan Worley already has the D-I credentials. What could be more interesting is what happens away from those two. Who steps up when all the attention shifts to either Adams or Worley?
Archbishop Wood at North Penn
Buzz: North Penn missed the playoffs last year for the first time in what seems like a century, and there are still questions surrounding the Knights. Regardless of their current status, though, they pose an excellent test for another perennial contender. Few teams can match Wood's physicality, especially along the line, but North Penn always gives the Vikings a good game. This result could help determine how legitimate of a contender Archbishop Wood is again in Class AAA.
Central Valley at Montour
Buzz: A rematch of the 2010 WPIAL Class AAA championship game, Central Valley and Montour are both vying for some attention in another crowded battle in the Pittsburgh area. Montour wasn't that impressive against Hopewell in Week 1, but Central Valley easily dispatched an athletic New Castle squad. A strong game here might be Jordan Whitehead's coming out party for Central Valley.
Parkland at Easton
Buzz: Two perennial District 11 powers get an early face-off. Both love to run the ball; Parkland put up 277 yards in a surprisingly easy win over Delaware Valley, while Easton ran for 341 in a comeback win over Pennsbury. The difference? Parkland is far more accomplished passing the football, as Nick Zambelli threw for 172 yards in Week 1. Easton's defense will have to be up to the task to make sure he isn't the difference maker.
La Salle at Imhotep Charter
Buzz: Based on Class size, this shouldn't even be a contest. But we all know that class size isn't what matters. Talent does, and both La Salle and Imhotep have loaded rosters. La Salle introduced two new gamebreakers last week in QB transfer Kyle Shurmur and RB Jordan Meachum. Imhotep showed that it's not afraid to take shots at the end zone no matter who is on the field, as Shaquille Jones and Zahir Wright had interception returns for touchdowns. This might be the overall Game of the Week because of the sheer amount of talent.
