Rivals250 DL Kirven signs with Tide
In somewhat of a surprise to kick off National Signing Day, Rivals250 defensive lineman Korren Kirven signed with Alabama over Maryland, Virginia Tech and Tennessee.
Kirven, a native of Lynchburg, Va., took his official visit to Tuscaloosa the weekend of Jan. 20, and in an interview with TideSports.com, he raved about the Crimson Tide's program and the way the staff develops its players.
"Alabama is a great school and has a beautiful campus," Kirven said. "All of the coaching staff are great coaches. Two national championships in three years, so they're a winning program. They always recruit the best players, and that would be great competition if I went there. With the way they develop you, no other school really can do it like they do it."
At 6-foot-4, 272 pounds, Alabama plans to use Kirven as a defensive end who can play the three, five and six-technique. He joins a loaded class of defensive linemen that includes Dakota Ball, Caleb Gulledge, Darren Lake, Darius Philon and Alphonse Taylor.
As a senior, Kirven broke his leg late in the season which forced him to miss the state championship game as well as the Under Armour All-America Game. He remained on crutches during his visit to UA but said the recovery is going well.
He plans to major in graphic design when he gets to Alabama.
