Safety, Damarco Gilmore hopes to raise his stock
For Damarco Gilmore out of Chicago (Ill.) Harlan High School, he is hoping that as he makes his rounds this summer at the various camps and combines, that he stock will rise, whereby college offers will follow.
"I plan on attending a lot of camps this summer, to get some more exposure," says Gilmore, who is still waiting for his first offer. "Right now I plan on going to Illinois State, University of Minnesota, Northern Illinois, the Nike combine that's coming up on April 7th and a few others."
At Harlan, he plays strong safety, although it's not surprising to see the 5-foot-11, 190 pounder playing the hybrid role that includes linebacker.
"My coach likes to put me in the box because I'm such a good tackler, but I'm between that and strong safety," he adds. "But a lot of college coaches see me at strong safety."
Speaking of colleges and according to Gilmore, he is hearing Illinois State, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan State, Army, Ball State and Wisconsin
So what is Chicago native looking for at the next level? "I'm looking for college that has really good academics, because I'm a student-athlete first," shares Gilmore, who also participates in track where he runs the 100M and 200M. "But also a football program that I feel comfortable with."
For Gilmore and his teammates, they are looking to rebound from their 2-7 record for 2011. "We were a real young team, because the year before we had 17 seniors on our team. So basically, that was our entire team and so, last year was basically a rebuilding season for us. But we have some players on this year's team, with me, Kijana Evans," says Evans of his 6-foot-5, 280 offensive lineman.
On the season, Gilmore registered 78 tackles and likes to mirror is game after one of his favorite players. "I really like Brian Dawkins," declares Gilmore. "I like how he shows his emotions and how he leads his team on the field every Sunday."
GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Gilmore's recruiting throughout his senior campaign.
